Multi-Million Dollar Boost for Building the New Larkspur Library

We have a lot of exciting news to share with you.

$100,000 Marin County Grant to TCF

TCF has received notification from the offices of Marin County Supervisor Katie Rice and County Administrator Matthew H. Hymel, that it will be the recipient of a $100,000 grant. (To see County Letter)

The grant is to help fund the construction of a new modern library at The Commons in Larkspur (these funds are counted in our $4,688,000 raised to date). The funding was secured with the assistance of Larkspur City Councilperson Catherine Way. Thank you, Marin County Board of Supervisors, County Administrator, and the Larkspur City Council, for your support.

$5.2M State Grant to City

Officials with the State Library announced Round One recipients of the Building Forward Library Infrastructure Program Grant on Monday, September 12, 2022. The City of Larkspur will receive $5,232,582 to assist with the construction of a new 6,845 square foot library. The award amount was the maximum amount for which the City was eligible. The award was the eighteenth largest in Round One.

The Building Forward Grant Program requires the City to match the grant amount dollar for dollar, making the initial project budget $10.4 million. The City expects construction work on the new library to begin in early 2024.” [Link to 9/14/22 City News release and State Letter]

The Commons Foundation is the city’s designated fundraising partner for $5M of the $5.2M city match for the state funds.

Community Match Launches to Raise 1/3 of Final Goal

We have $60,000 in funds for a community match. Donors who give $500 or more will be matched dollar for dollar up to our $60,000 total. As of 9/21/22 we have matched $13,225 in new donations.

Our Community Match support comes from The Friends of Larkspur Library, the Larkspur Community Foundation, The Tamalpais, Linda & Bill Tichy, Lori Lerner and Terry Berkemeier, and Creekside Neighbors in Memory of Monica Clark. Many thanks to our generous Community Match donors. We hope you will take this opportunity to participate!

$312,000 Left To Raise

We are so very close to our goal of raising $5M for a new modern Larkspur Library at The Commons (Rose Lane & Doherty). Fortunately, thanks to the generosity of donors like you, The Commons Foundation has raised $4,688,000 in private funds for the new library, bringing us within $312K of our $5M year-end goal. The city intends to use the $5M raised by TCF to match the state grant. Thank you to all of our donors and supporters.

Children’s Art Contest Launch

TCF and the Friends of the Larkspur Library are launching a “Why I Love Libraries” TCF Holiday Card Art Contest. All Marin students grades K-8 are encouraged to enter. Grandparents, parents, teachers, and neighbors – help us spread the word! An awards ceremony and press release announcing winners will occur in December. So Close…

To make sure we can build the highest quality, largest facility possible with programmable space, we need to match the State Grant amount of $5.2M. Please consider making a tax-deductible year-end gift by participating in the Community Match, or if you can, please make a Major Gift.

Thank you,
