Awards Ceremony to Take Place at Larkspur City Hall on December 8
The Commons Foundation to Present Awards and Prizes to Library Art Contest Winners and Finalists; Larky, The Larkspur Library Mascot to Congratulate Contestants
Larkspur, Calif. (December 5, 2022) – The Commons Foundation (TCF), a nonprofit with a charter to raise funds to build a new public library in Larkspur, will host the “Why I Love Libraries” art contest for kids awards ceremony on Thursday, December 8 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Larkspur City Hall porch. TCF will present awards and prizes to art contest winners and finalists, and Larky, the Larkspur Library mascot, will be on hand to congratulate contestants.
TCF launched the “Why I Love Libraries” art contest for Marin elementary and middle school students (grades K-8) to raise awareness of the importance of libraries as well as TCF’s mission to raise funds for a new modern library in Larkspur. All eligible students were invited to submit art answering the prompt “Why I Love Libraries” in four categories, including physical art, digital art, video, and poetry. “Why I Love Libraries” art contest winners include:
Physical Art Winners:
- 1st – 2nd grade: Zain Dalal, (1st grade, Cove School)
- 3rd grade: Eloise Miailovich, (St. Patrick School), and Keenan Paredes (TIE)
- 4th grade: Nicholas Castanheira (Neil Cummins Elementary)
- Middle school: Anna Miailovich (6th grade, St. Patrick School)
- Collaboration: Ryan Bokser, Caleb Hess, and Dylan Christensen (4th grade, Cove School)
Digital Art Winner:
- Lily Borri (8th grade, Hall Middle School)
Video Winner:
- Rohan Wadia (3rd grade, Bacich Elementary)
Poetry Winners:
- Elementary School: Tilden McMonsef (2nd grade, Park School)
- Middle School: Caroline Gron (7th grade, Hall Middle School)
Honorable Mentions include Henry Weil (1st grade), Maya Bletnitsky (2nd grade, Cove School), Isaiah Weil (3rd grade), Julian Bletnitsky (3rd grade, Cove School), Heidi Ellenzweig (6th grade, Hall Middle School), and Leo Ellenzweig (3rd grade, Neil Cummins Elementary).

“TCF’s art contest for kids was a great opportunity for Marin students to use their creativity to start a larger conversation about the importance of libraries in our community,” said Joe Jennings, TCF president. “We’re thrilled with the outcome of the ‘Why I Love Libraries’ art contest and the connection
we were able to build with Marin students and schools. On behalf of TCF, I would like to thank the talented students that participated, the community for the support we received, and our donors for helping make the art contest for kids a success.”
“Why I Love Libraries” art contest winners will have their art featured on The Commons Foundation official 2022 holiday card and displayed at the Larkspur Library. Winners will also be featured on the Larkspur Library website, and The Commons Foundation website and newsletter. Additionally, all winners and finalists will receive special prizes at the awards ceremony.

The “Why I Love Libraries” art contest prizes were generously donated by BurritoVille, ToyCrazy, Barnes and Noble, First Street Books, Half Day Café, Nothing Bundt Cakes, M&G Burgers, Victoria Pastry and Emporio Rulli.
