Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe we’re already in February. As we step into 2025, we want to take a moment to reflect on the journey we’ve shared and express our heartfelt gratitude for your incredible support of the new public library at The Commons. Thanks to supporters like you, we’re seeing exciting progress as construction moves forward on The Commons parcel.

We are immensely grateful to all the generous TCF donors and our community who have made this new library possible. As the days grow shorter and colder, I can imagine (sometime in 2026) sitting in the new, cozy library lost in a book on a cloudy winter day. The following week, maybe I’ll go with friends to one of the community rooms for an event (TED Talk, children’s story time, bridge lesson). That weekend, maybe I’m attending a book club, creating holiday cards, or just gathering with others for the holiday season. So many exciting and warm imaginings of our our future Larkspur Library and Community Center!

What an exciting last couple of weeks it’s been for the TCF team as we prepared for the new library groundbreaking ceremony at The Commons on Saturday, October 26. We celebrated this milestone with our key donors, who, thanks to their enormous generosity, made the vision of a new library possible.

I hope you’re enjoying a great summer with lots of good reading. The best book my book club read this summer was The Covenant of Water by Dr. Abraham Verghese. It’s uncommon for all 15 of us to love and enjoy the same book, but we all loved this one!

Congratulations to all those graduating this month. Summer holidays are ahead and hopefully lots of fun and great reading time. With the Fourth of July rapidly approaching, it’s a good opportunity to reflect on why libraries are so important to our communities.

The start of summer is upon us. For some, this will mean time off to rest and recuperate. For others, it might mean traveling to see family or to check some adventures off the bucket list.  While everyone has different plans for the summer, The Commons Foundation and the City of Larkspur will be working hard to finalize plans for the new library, which includes getting The Commons area ready for a new structure — how exciting!

Mother’s Day is just around the corner — Sunday, May 12. In my eyes, a mother can be your first friend, your best friend, your forever friend. Moms are like buttons — they hold everything together. A mother’s hug lasts long after she lets go. I would say the only thing better than being a Mom is becoming a Grandma! Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mom’s and Grandma’s out there!

Our library project for Larkspur continues to evolve and is on track to break ground later this year. We were thrilled to share with you in February that the City of Larkspur approved an additional $4.6M for the project in order to include a much-needed 2000 sq ft community room that can also be used to receive basic services during emergency situations. The new total budget for the building is over $15M.
