TFC urges the city of Larkspur to submit a state grant application for the matching funds for building a new library
Wednesday, July 21, 2021 – The Commons Foundation today requested that the City of Larkspur City Council put on the agenda of their next meeting how the City and TCF can take advantage of the new State of California $439 Million public library grant program.
The City of Larkspur and the Commons Foundation have joined together to raise the funds to build a new library to replace the old library at City Hall. The first phase cost of building a 5,000 SF facility is approximately $5M and the City of Larkspur has stated that it has no funds available for the capital project, it all of it must be raised privately by TCF.
The State of California has passed SB-129 the 2021-22 Budget act which includes $500M in public library funding, including $439 million for public library infrastructure grants. Libraries will apply to the State Library for grants, with the maximum grant amount set at $10 million per library.

Dear Mayor Haroff and City Manager Schwarz:
I would like to join The Commons Foundation in urging the City of Larkspur to prepare a State of California Public Library Infrastructure matching grant application (based on SB-129 the 2021-22 Budget Act) to accelerate funding a new public library at Rose Lane.
I also urge the City to call on other non-profits who have raised funds for building a new library to participate, and to use whatever additional funds the City may have for the Library, so we can have the largest grant application possible.
I believe that by moving quickly the City can write a grant and bring the community together to get the building done sooner.
Respectfully yours,
