August 2022 Newsletter

Dear Friend,

Is summer really coming to an end? I believe the signs are in the air — backyards bursting with vine-ripened tomatoes, kids heading back to school, and nightstands piled high with summer books still waiting to be read.

Sigh…

The good news:

The Larkspur Library is now open 5 days a week
Tuesday through Saturday 11AM – 6PM

Franklin Escobedo and his staff have done a great job of retooling the inside of the library after the COVID shut down and now all are invited to visit. They also recently announced a new locker system, called HoldIT, that allows patrons to pick up materials after hours. Stop by the library to see what’s new.

Wine Stroll Coming in September

The 10th Annual Downtown Larkspur Wine Stroll will take place on Saturday, September 10th from 4 – 8PM. Hosted by the Larkspur Chamber of Commerce, we plan to be there outside the library with the Friends of the Larkspur Library to support this popular community event. Drop by and find out more about the new library.

The State Grant

No word yet on when we’ll hear from the state. According to the state website: “The first application period opened February 7, 2022, and closed March 21, 2022. The State Library received 278 applications from 97 jurisdictions. Requests exceeded $548.5 million in state grant funding for projects totaling $1.1 billion. Grant requests ranged from $14,300 to $10 million (the maximum award) with an average of nearly $2 million.” https://www.library.ca.gov/grants/infrastructure/

Fundraising Progress: $4,517,451 Cash and Pledges

We have been blessed by generous donors stepping up all summer to help us reach our $5 million goal. We will continue to meet with everyone and anyone who is interested in learning more about the new library and opportunities to help us pay for it.

We hope that you squeeze as much fun into the remaining days of summer as you can. We also hope that a year from now construction will have started at The Commons for the new modern Larkspur Library.

We are getting very close,
