TCF Newsletter October/November 2024

Dear Friends,

After a great summer, I hope you’re enjoying this beautiful fall weather.

What an exciting last couple of weeks it’s been for the TCF team as we prepared for the new library groundbreaking ceremony at The Commons on Saturday, October 26. We celebrated this milestone with our key donors, who, thanks to their enormous generosity, made the vision of a new library possible.

We were fortunate to have special guest speakers, including Marin County Supervisor Katie Rice, former Assemblymember Marc Levine (who secured a $1M infrastructure grant for the new library), TCF President Emeritus Joe Jennings, and Mayor Scot Candell. We also had a large presence from the terrific design-build and project management partners, Alten Construction, Noll & Tam Architects, and Kitchell Corp.

A group of people wearing hard hats and holding gold shovels with red bows stand on a dirt patch at a groundbreaking ceremony. Trees with autumn leaves are in the background. They are dressed in casual and business attire.

We could not have pulled this event off without the help of many people. A special thanks to the Friends of the Library team for helping us welcome our guests and hosting the refreshments table.

Likewise, we are grateful to the city’s Public Works team of Jason, Noel, and Gerardo who came to our rescue on Friday to drill holes in the rock-hard ground so we could put up signs acknowledging our donor-designated rooms and indicating the indoor layout of the new library so people could take a virtual walkthrough of the new spaces.

Three construction workers pose outdoors on a worksite. They are wearing reflective vests and hard hats. The ground is covered with soil and gravel, and a few wooden supports are visible in the background. Blue sky with clouds overhead.

The wonderful marketing team at Kitchell Corp (construction project managers) printed our event programs and library plan layout and provided us with the gold shovels, hard hats, and sound system for the event. Kitchell staff member Ryan Fino took all the wonderful photos of the event. Please click here to view them.

When I served on the Larkspur City Council in 2018, we projected that the fundraising for this project would take over 10 years. What TCF and our generous community have done in the past five years is truly amazing — I believe it’s one of the largest and most successful public-private fundraising success stories in Marin history!

A large sign depicting the new library layout will be up shortly on The Commons for everyone to see thanks to the team at Noll and Tam and Alten Construction. Construction will begin this winter and will conclude by the end of 2025. We will then look forward to opening the doors of our new community library in early 2026.

We will keep you updated on when construction begins and its progress over the coming year. It won’t be long before we can all enjoy this much-awaited community space.

We are so grateful for this wonderful community effort to bring a new library to Larkspur.

Happy November — May your Thanksgiving be full of PEACE, LOVE AND JOY!

P.S. There is still time to make a tax-deductible contribution to the landscaping campaign! This will provide beautiful outdoor spaces with trees and garden areas to sit, read, meet with friends, and just enjoy the magnificent location with Mt Tam in the background. There are also a few donor recognition opportunities left in the new library as well. Please contact us at admin@thecommonsatlarkspur.org if you have questions.
