Dear Friend,
Congratulations to all those graduating this month. Summer holidays are ahead and hopefully lots of fun and great reading time.
With the Fourth of July rapidly approaching, it’s a good opportunity to reflect on why libraries are so important to our communities.
City libraries are fundamental pillars of democracy as they provide universal access to knowledge and information regardless of socio-economic status or background. By offering free resources such as books, internet access, and educational programs, libraries empower individuals with the tools needed to participate fully in civic life.
Libraries also serve as democratic hubs where diverse communities can gather to learn, discuss ideas, and engage in lifelong learning. Libraries not only foster literacy and education but also promote equality by bridging the digital divide and ensuring everyone has the opportunity to explore and expand their horizons.
In this way, our new Larkspur Library at The Commons will continue to play a crucial role in upholding democratic principles of inclusivity, accessibility, and the free exchange of ideas for generations to come.
Happy Independence Day to you all!
Sincerely,
Ann Morrison
President, The Commons Foundation
PS: Staying in town this Fourth? Join your neighbors at the annual Corte Madera-
Larkspur 4th of July Parade & Festivities. The parade leaves Redwood High School at 10:30 am and winds through downtown Larkspur from Magnolia Ave and into Corte Madera by way of Tamalpais Drive.
